When researching MBBS abroad, every university brochure promises "World-Class Clinical Rotations". However, the reality of clinical exposure abroad is often misrepresented.

What is an Observership?

An observership is exactly what it sounds like: you observe. You stand at the back of the ward. You do not take a patient history. You do not perform physical examinations. While observerships are common in early years, if your 5th and 6th years consist entirely of observerships, you are being scammed.

What is a True Clinical Rotation?

A true clinical rotation requires active student participation under supervision. You are assigned a patient, take their full medical history, physically examine them, and propose a diagnosis to your professor.

How to Protect Yourself in 2026

1. Does the university own its affiliated hospitals? State universities usually do.
2. What is the bed-to-student ratio? Look for massive government hospitals.
3. Is local language proficiency mandatory? You cannot take a patient's history if you cannot speak their language (Russian, Georgian, etc.).

Do not compromise on clinical exposure.
